About the Role
The Midtown Group is seeking an HR Manager / People Experience Manager to serve as the day-to-day onsite People lead and strategic partner to our Chief People Officer (CPO).
This role is best described as a high-volume, high-impact People role supporting both internal employees and a large contractor population. You’ll be the first line of support for a wide spectrum of People needs, ranging from routine HR and benefits inquiries to complex employee relations matters.
We’re looking for someone who can manage volume, ambiguity, and urgency while still bringing sound judgment, empathy, and compliance-driven decision-making. This is not a siloed HRBP role, it’s hands-on, operational, and deeply connected to the business.
What You’ll Do
Frontline People Support & Employee Relations (Core Focus)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for high volumes of People-related inquiries, including:
- Benefits questions and enrollments
- Leave management (FMLA, accommodations, ADA)
- Employee and contractor relations
- Performance concerns and policy guidance
- Client-based HR matters affecting contractors onsite
- Navigate issues that range from transactional to complex, knowing when to resolve independently and when to escalate
- Partner with in-house legal counsel on investigations, sensitive employee relations issues, and risk mitigation
Consultant & Advocate
- Provide thoughtful, culturally aligned guidance to managers and employees on people management, performance improvement, career development, and compensation practices
- Coach leaders through difficult conversations and corrective action
- Act as a trusted advisor while balancing empathy, compliance, and business realities
Business & Account-Aligned Support
- Operate with an Account Manager mindset, understanding client environments and how People decisions impact delivery, retention, and reputation
- Support employees and contractors working at client sites, including handling accommodation requests and HR matters tied to client expectations
- Balance People advocacy with commercial and operational outcomes
Talent & Workforce Management
- Support internal recruiting efforts across Recruiters, Account Managers, Business Development, and Operations
- Maintain a steady pipeline of internal talent with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion
- Partner on workforce planning, mobility, and retention strategies
Operational Execution
- Execute HR fundamentals at scale: onboarding, offboarding, compensation administration, performance management, and training
- Oversee employee and contractor benefits programs and leave administration
- Ensure consistent, compliant execution of People processes across the organization with a strong audit and compliance lens
Who You Are
- Comfortable operating across a wide spectrum of HR issues, from routine inquiries to complex employee relations cases
- Able to handle volume, pace, and pressure without losing judgment or empathy
- Brings a generalist HR foundation with the confidence to make decisions
- Naturally account-oriented, business-minded, and service-driven
- Equally comfortable supporting junior employees and advising senior leaders
What We’re Looking For
- 4–7 years of experience in an operational HR, Consultant Care, People Ops, or HR Business Partner role
- Demonstrated experience handling employee relations, benefits administration, leave management (FMLA/ADA), and accommodations
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws
- Experience supporting contractor populations and/or client-based workforces strongly preferred
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to manage sensitive conversations
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and composure in high-stress situations
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, or related field preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR systems
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Chief People Officer (CPO) or senior HR leader and works closely with business leadership and operational teams.
Why This Role Matters
This role sits at the center of the business. You’ll influence employee experience, contractor retention, client satisfaction, and compliance all at once. If you like being busy, being trusted, and being the person others rely on to solve real problems, you’ll thrive here.
