This position is responsible for supervising the maintenance and improvement of city parks and recreation facilities.
- Manages maintenance and capital improvement projects for Parks and Recreation facilities and affiliated properties.
- Hires, trains, assigns, directs, supervises, and evaluates disciplines.
- Maintains productive relationships with the general public, community groups, stakeholder groups, and other city departments.
- Approves the purchase of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Manages online software to improve the efficiency of operations.
- Prepares operating and capital expenditure budget reports, bid specifications, spreadsheets, and specifications.
- Maintains database of material inventory, equipment inventory, and employee work logs.
- Participates in a variety of meetings.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft office products such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alabama for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance methods and materials.
- Knowledge of landscaping principles and practices.
- Knowledge of horticulture principles.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of facilities maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of budget management principles.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Complexity/Scope of Work
- The work consists of varied supervisory, management, and technical duties. Inclement weather conditions contribute to the complexity of the position.

Physical Demands/Work Environment
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility
- This position has functional supervision of staff as assigned by the Director.
